World Series Game 7 Attracts 51 Million Viewers Across the US, Canada and Japanese Markets.

The exciting 11-inning contest where the Dodgers overcome the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 drew a combined over 50 million viewers in the US, Canada, and Japan markets. Major League Baseball reported this represents the highest-rated Fall Classic finale since the 1991 contest featuring the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Breakdown

The Saturday memorable contest drew over 27 million viewers on Fox Sports networks, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s digital services. According to Nielsen, it was the second highest-rated program of the week.

It additionally stands as the top-rated World Series game after the 2017 Game 7 involving the Dodgers and Astros, which drew over 29 million. This represents a 16% improvement compared to the previous Game 7 between the Nationals and Astros, which attracted 23.19 million viewers.

In the weekly rankings, the sixth game placed fourth, Game 4 ranked seventh, the fifth game came in eighth, and Game 3 finished in thirteenth position.

Global Viewership Figures

In Canada, the climactic game recorded over 11 million viewers on the Sportsnet network and the French-language TVA Sports. This was the most-watched English broadcast in the country after the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding game began at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it averaged 12M. This came after last Friday’s Game 6 – in which World Series MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave up one run in six frames – drew over 13 million spectators, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic game on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Overall Totals and Trends

The entire seven-match World Series drew 15.71 million audience members on Fox, a two percent increase from the previous year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This marks the first time since 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has recorded audience increases for two consecutive seasons.

Including the opening game telecast on the Univision network, the complete US average reached 16.1 million. The overall World Series average in the Japanese market was 9.7M and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The full MLB Postseason on Fox and its sister channels recorded 8.09 million viewers, an 8% increase over last year and Fox’s best playoff performance since the 2017 season.

MLB announced that the World Series was televised in 203 nations and regions by forty-four broadcasting partners in 16 different languages.
