The Former President's System of Retribution and Reward

Trump's insatiable urge for payback has rapidly transformed into a methodical framework. During the twelve months, the chief executive's fury and caprices have taken on the shape of administrative measures in ways comparable to historical dictatorial regimes. Government personnel who fail to comply are summarily removed and succeeded by supporters. Political figures who challenge him encounter legal action, court proceedings and punishment. Adversaries have been designated under presidential orders as “hostile to national interests”, “against faith communities” and “anti-capitalist”, and menaced with criminal charges as “security threats”.

The Justice System Remade

All instance involving prosecution of Trump's enemies and immunity for his allies demonstrates its own distinct features. But, despite their particular character, they exemplify expressions of what has emerged as a calculated approach. These events are anything but isolated. His purge of federal attorneys and FBI officials, alongside his placement of loyalists in high-level roles, began swiftly, soon developed a consistency, and has now been molded into a regime. Federal prosecutors and the FBI have been transformed into political bodies under Trump's clear orders to implement his demands. Injustice has been rendered standard. It constitutes the retribution system.

Administration is preoccupied with targeting the leader's perceived adversaries than they are with defending our national security.

Inside the System

The foundation of this mechanism has been uncovered in the lawsuit of several previous senior FBI agents submitted in September in the US district court in the capital against FBI director Kash Patel and top lawyer Pam Bondi for illegal termination in “a initiative of payback against Plaintiffs for what administration figures judged to be a failure to show proper political loyalty”. In the complaint that a former acting director, the ex- interim leader, describes a conversation in which he “freely acknowledged the unlawfulness of his conduct”.

He had tried to defend FBI agents from being dismissed, the complaint alleges. Patel told him that “they” – interpreted by him to be the White House and federal prosecutors – had ordered him to fire anyone who they considered as having participated in a legal probe against the president. The document continues: “Patel stated that he had to fire the personnel his superiors told him to fire, because his ability to retain his own role was contingent on the dismissal of the agents who handled matters involving the leader. He explained that there was nothing he or the official could do to stop these or any other firings, because ‘the FBI attempted to put the leader in prison and he remembers.’” Once he informed the director he was disregarding the FBI's own regulations, the director allegedly said “he understood that and he realized the character of the swift terminations were almost certainly improper”.

Extensive Effects

Since the director's claimed acknowledgment to the official, the justice department and the Federal Bureau have been dismantled and reorganized for his system of punishment. Several of the FBI's high-ranking agents were dismissed or forced out in the initial period of the administration. Approximately thousands of lawyers at the justice department have taken a “voluntary departure plan”. At least several federal prosecutors, among them those in the southern district of New York, quit in dissent over what they viewed as ideological pressure in dropping the criminal prosecution against the New York City mayor, a political figure, in exchange for his collaboration with the administration's Immigration and Customs Enforcement detentions of foreign nationals. The anti-corruption unit of the justice department, which oversees misconduct investigations, has been cut down to two attorneys. The civil rights division has been devastated: 70% of its personnel has departed. A third of senior leaders at DoJ have resigned. The section upholding environmental law has seen departures of a majority its leadership.

Rewards and Punishments

In the Adams case, the acting US attorney for the NY office, she, quit in objection against what she characterized as the “trade-off”. Tom Homan, the president's “border czar,” showed up as the agent with Adams on Fox News to state: “If he doesn't come through, I'll be back in NYC.”. And, a former official, previously the justice department figure and a former Trump attorney, who arranged the arrangement, was given an appellate federal judgeship, a potential stepping stone to the judicial branch.

The president's exemption for offenses committed while in office, granted by the unprecedented decision of the GOP-led on the supreme court, thus blocking his legal action over the political violence and maintaining his electoral prospects for the presidential race, is the cornerstone on which he relies to defend his supporters. Given this protection, he has been freed to enable wrongdoing. The effect of the judicial ruling saturates his government and the Republican Party completely. The court matter has metastasized.
